A fixed awning stays where it is put. There are no arms to fold, no motor, and no mechanism to service — the frame braces to the building and the cover holds over the space through the season. That is the trade against a retractable system: you give up the choice of winter sun, and in return you get cover you never have to think about and almost nothing that can go wrong.
We make fixed awnings in three profiles, each suited to a different opening. The fixed wedge is a braced triangular frame for windows, doors and walkways — the sturdiest thing we make. The bow awning curves outward, for shopfronts and entrances where the shape does visual work as well as shading. The pram awning is a semi-permanent canvas hood that closes when you want the winter sun back.
All of them are made in our own workshop and measured to the opening rather than bought in a size, in Docril acrylic or Sheerweave sunscreen chosen for the Highveld sun. Residential and commercial, across Johannesburg and Pretoria. Mitch quotes every job himself, and the price quoted is the price you pay. When the fabric eventually ages we re-cover the frame rather than replace the awning.
For doors and windows we fit two of these profiles: the fixed wedge where you want a rigid, braced frame over a doorway, walkway or window, and the pram awning where you want the curved hood and the option to fold it back. Both are measured to the opening and made in the workshop, so a door awning and a window awning on the same wall match in profile, fabric and colour.

That is the point of one. There are no arms to retract and nothing to close, so it holds its cover through the season. If you want to choose when you have shade, a retractable system is the better answer.
Very little. The frame is static, so there is no mechanism to service. The fabric is the part that ages — Highveld UV gets everything eventually — and when it does we re-cover the frame rather than replace the whole awning.
